Within the elegant stone walls of the Grade II listed RSPB Headquarters we have created a walled wildlife garden that hums with life.

A feast for the senses, the photos don’t do justice to the feeling of being inside the garden. The scent of the climbing roses & the gentle buzz as the air moves with butterflies, bees, hoverflies, dragonflies, enticed by the nectar & the secluded wildlife pond.
This is the Contemplation garden, a peaceful space to rest within the gardens of The Lodge, for RSPB staff and for visitors.

The site forms part of the 18th Century Headquarters of the RSPB. Situated within The Lodge Nature Reserve, a unique landscape of woodland & heathland on the Greensand Ridge.

Dry garden planting on the native sandy loam. The planting is drought resilient & nectar rich, providing shelter & seed heads to feed the insects & birds.

A unique site & a beautiful opportunity to create a garden which draws on the sense of place & enhances the existing architectural features & atmosphere whilst creating a variety of habitats to encourage wildlife from the wider site into this peaceful space.
